Red border around National Insignia dates this between 28-Jun-1943 and 14-Sep-1943 (red border only lasted three-and-a-half months).

P-40 THE OLD DOG:

During WWII the Curtiss P-40 served with Allied countries on all fronts, it was one of the first
US fighters to get into the fight and continued to serve through out WWII. Did you know the P-40 served as a sea-going fighter for the Royal Navy.

SEA GOING CURTISS P-40H: THE KITTIWAKE

Powered by 1 x Rolls-Royce Griffon engine and designated P-40H was built by Fairley and entered service in 1944 armed w/4 x 20mm cannons, folding wings. The Royal Navy continued to operate the
P-40H after WWII saw service in Korea and even shot down a Communist Mig 15 jet fighter.
Later supported British forces in Malaya, and the Suez Crisis retired by the (FAA) Fleet Air Arm in 1960.
