Famous WW2 Quote
"All that silly talk about the advance of science and such leaves me cold. Give me peace and a retarded science."Thomas Dodd, late 1945

I've seen WWII films of Wildcats launched from carriers, and they do a type of porpoise
up and down movement, why is that?
The Wildcat pilot was busy flying the plane, getting the flaps up and hand-cranking the landing gear at the same time.
MAKE EVERY ROUND COUNT:
The F4F-3 was armed w/four fifty caliber machine guns, w/1800 rounds or, 450rpg pilots had about 34 seconds firing time.
The F4F-4 entered service in 1942, and was armed w/six fifty caliber machine guns with 1440 rounds or, 240rpg giving about 20 seconds firing time.
Production ended in August 1945, with over
7800 aircraft being built. The F4F Wildcat was phased out of service, declared surplus or scrapped.
