  • Socialist Sutan Sjahrir was made the head of the acting Indonesian legislative body. Fellow socialist Amir Sjarifuddin was made the chief of President Sukarno's cabinet. Both of them were leaders of resistance groups during the Japanese occupation. ww2dbase [CPC]
French Indochina
  • Allied Supreme Commander in Cambodia Lieutenant Colonel E. D. Murray ordered Japanese troops in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to disarm the nationalist militia Green Shirts. ww2dbase [CPC]
  • Prince Sisowath Monireth was named the Prime Minister of Cambodia. ww2dbase [CPC]
  • Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh sent a telegram to US President Harry Truman, asking for US support for Democratic Republic of Vietnam's petition for a seat at the United Nations Advisory Commission for the Far East. ww2dbase [CPC]
Germany
  • Miklós Horthy met with Thomas Dodd in Nürnberg, Germany. ww2dbase [Main Article | CPC]
Malaya
  • The Malay Nationalist Party was formed in Ipoh in the state of Perak by Ahmad Boestamam, Dahari Ali, Mokhtaruddin Lasso, Musa Ahmad, Rashid Maidin, Abdullah C. D., and others. Some of the founders were communists. Boestamam would soon lead a radical youth wing, API, of the party. ww2dbase [CPC]
Taiwan
  • 30 US warships disembarked 12,000 troops and 2,000 officers of Chinese 70th Army at Kirun (Keelung), Taiwan amidst a cheering crowd. The Taiwanese civilians were surprised to see the poor condition of the Chinese soldiers, wearing patchworked uniforms and straw sandals. The Chinese Army had indeed purposely dispatched its poorest equipped and poorest trained unit to liberate this remote province, while the best units were busy being ordered to advance to northern China to counter the communist threat. The Chinese troops rested only slightly before being ordered to advance on the capital of Taihoku (Taipei). ww2dbase [CPC]
