  • In an attempt to remove the money issued by the war-time Japanese puppet government based in Nanjing from circulation, the Chinese government announced the puppet money's abolition. Holders of puppet currency could exchange for legal currency at the impossible rate of 200 to 1, which effectively rendered puppet currency nearly worthless overnight. ww2dbase [CPC]

Hawaii Japan
  • Hajime Sugiyama committed suicide by shooting himself four times in the chest with a revolver in his office in Tokyo, Japan. His wife also killed herself. ww2dbase [Hajime Sugiyama | Tokyo | CPC]
Malaya
  • Allied South East Asia Command announced that the Malayan People's Anti-Japanese Army non-operational, thus any further reprisals and executions against war-time collaborators would become illegal. ww2dbase [CPC]
Singapore
  • The Japanese forces on Singapore officially surrendered to Louis Mountbattan of Allied South East Asia Command at the City Hall. United States
  • The personnel of US Marine Corps squadron VMF-214 held a reunion at Naval Air Station Alameda in California, United States, where the recently liberated prisoner of war Gregory Boyington would see his former squadron mates for the first time since he became captured.
