- USS Ray attacked a three-ship Japanese convoy west of Japan, missing with all three torpedoes fired. The Japanese freighters, actually armed Q-ships, fought back with depth charges, forcing Ray to surface. Ray was able to escape on the surface, deck gun firing to discourage pursuit.
