  • The rotunda of the Capitol building in Washington DC, United States, where Douglas MacArthur's body laid in state, was closed to the public at 1230 hours; by that time, about 150,000 people had passed by the bier. MacArthur's body was escorted to a ceremony at the Washington National Airport, then he was brought to Norfolk, Virginia, United States via aircraft.
