Japan
- 89 B-29 bombers of USAAF 314th Bombardment Wing and 313th Bombardment Squadron bombed Kumagaya, Japan between 0023 and 0139 hours with 356 M17, 1372 M19, and 6321 M47 incendiary bombs, an amount stunningly high for the small size of the city. As the Japanese government had already accepted the unconditional surrender terms, the Japanese made no resistance, and all US bombers returned safely. The resulting fires destroyed 74% of the city, killed 266 civilians, and wounding 3,000 civilians. ww2dbase [Bombing of Tokyo and Other Cities | Kumagaya, Saitama | CPC]
