- As oil refineries on the northern coast of Hong Kong Island burned with thick black smoke, 3,500 Japanese troops crossed the Lei Yue Mun Channel and established a beachhead at 2200 hours at the foot of the Chai Wan Mountain where a coastal battery overlooked the Lei Yue Mun Channel. Two hours later, another force of 4,000 would follow, overwhelming the remaining defenders at the battery. - On the northeastern side of Hong Kong Island, at the Salesian Missionary House, which had been taken over by the British Army in Oct 1941 as an advanced dressing station under the command of Captain S. Martin Banfill, Japanese troops executed by beheading 26 male medical personnel and 2 wounded military servicemen.
