- The USAAF 306th Bomb Group flying from RAF Thurleigh launched a raid against rocket launching sites in the Pas-de-Calais region of France but returned without bombing due to inability to positively identify the target. This was also the day that RAF Thurleigh received a visit from British royalty. HM King George VI, HM Queen Elizabeth, HRH Princess Elizabeth, and courtiers arrived accompanied by Eighth Air Force Commander General Jimmy Doolittle. This was Princess Elizabeth’s first visit to an American air base in Britain and she christened bomber ‘Rose of York’ named in her honor. ww2dbase [RAF Thurleigh | Vergeltungswaffe 1 | Vergeltungswaffe 2 | Pas-de-Calais | DS]
