- Submarine USS Thresher observed a 3,000-ton coastal tanker aground on a reef in the southeast portion of Makassar Strait. Japanese efforts to free the vessel were nearly completed when Thresher opened fire with 26 rounds from her deck gun. The tanker was left burning and sinking as it drifted free of the reef. ww2dbase [Thresher | Kapoposang Island, Celebes | DS]
