1 Oct 1932 | Wernher von Braun, a precocious young Prussian student, was appointed to the German Army Ordnance Department's ballistics section under Captain Walter R. Dornberger, an artillery specialist. |
21 Dec 1932 | Wernher von Braun attempted to light a rocket with a four meter long pole at Kummersdorf weapons research center south of Berlin, Germany; the rocket's motor exploded. |
16 Apr 1934 | Wernher von Braun completed his thesis "Solution to the Problem of the Liquid Propellant Rocket", but it was kept a secret by the German Army. It would not be published until 1960. |
8 Jan 1943 | Walter Dornberger and Werhner von Braun met with Albert Speer. During the meeting, Speer informed the rocket research leaders that construction of a rocket launching site along the English Channel coast would soon commence. |
