Recruiting For Possible New Project
Even though WW2DB is still very young and still has much to complete, thanks to all your support the site has already become somewhat of a success with a loyal reader-base. At this point, I believe the technical stuff that forms the foundation of the site has matured to a certain point where I can duplicate the database model to host another site about another historical period. Some examples of historical periods include the Crusades, the American Revolutionary War, the Three Kingdoms era in China, Napoleonic Wars, American Civil War, and so on.
Of course, running and writing for WW2DB is a job in itself, so I know I cannot run another website without sacrificing time that I normally contribute to WW2DB, and I do not wish to make that sacrifice at this moment. So, one possible plan is that I will establish the technical stuff behind the scenes, which includes:
- Database (the backbone of the site)
- Web design (probably will base on the current WW2DB design)
- Content management tool (so writers will not need to mess with editing web pages)
And with the setup provided above, content writers will have free rein in terms of what the new site will contain without needing to worry about the technical stuff. I will remain mostly outside the picture as a hands-off owner and only offer technical assistance when necessary, interfering only if the writers get really out of hand for some reason. :)
Do you think you might be interested? Do you have any questions? Please feel free to contact me, Peter, and we will discuss further. I think this database model I created may be really beneficial for the history/education field!
