Last of WW2 Comanche Code Talkers Dies
The last surviving Commanche code talker, Charles Chibitty, had died at the age of 83. He was one of many Native Americans who served in a special unit in the Allied forces in WW2 that used their native tongue as communications code. "It's strange, but growing up as a child I was forbidden to speak my native language at school," Chibitty said in 2002. "Later my country asked me to. My language helped win the war and that makes me very proud. Very proud."
