Passing of WW2-era King of Romania

6 Dec 2017

Between 1940 and 1947, Romania's head of state of King Mihai I of the House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. While relatively powerless during the reign of German-aligned dictator Ion Antonescu, he participated in the successful coup d'état against Antonescu in 1944, thus bringing Romania to the Allied side. He was forced into abdication in Dec 1947. He would remain exiled until 1992. He passed away at the age of 96 on 5 Dec 2017.
