WW2DB's Fifth Anniversary

29 Dec 2009

The World War II Database is celebrating its fifth birthday today! As the site content grew steadily, so had our readership in the past year, which more than doubled. Below is a quick summary of what you can find on the website as of today, with the growth since last anniversary in parenthesis.

In terms of expansions into new territory, 2009 saw the new vehicles section being established after a year or two of work as well as the expansion of the WW2DB community through Facebook and Twitter. There might be a lot of growth and a lot of changes at WW2DB as always, but one thing remains the same: The site can only do so because of the great material from the team of contributors and the active support of the site's visitors. Thank you all for yet another great year, and hope everyone will have a healthy and prosperous 2010!

Congratulations to Peter Chen and his associates for a GREAT site! Its' complete and huge library of reference material concerning World War Two is unmatched.

Too few in our educational realms have continued this important part of our country's history and the worlds history in our students history lessons. I first heard of my own fathers presence at Hickam on December 7, 1941 from our Third Grade Teacher who read his interview to us. I have volunteered in our public schools and we have teachers now who don't remember or mention the Attack of December 7, 1941.

I attend a World War Two Round Table Group Meeting once a month. We have Veterans speak to us of these actual events during World War Two. These Veterans were actually there and are still with us to tell their stories.

We have a Army Nurse who served all over Europe, NCOs, and officers as members from all the branches of the Armed Services during World War Two.

In the past we had many wonderful and informative speakers but they grow less and less each year. If you are not in such a group start one, these Veterans are hungry for getting together with others who know what the sound and feel of battle really is.

Last year we had a German who was a POW of the United States. He was an excellent speaker and accepted and answered any and all questions given him.

We had three members of the Tuskegee Airman speak to our group as well. This year we are lining up a US Navy Submariner and a Survivor of the Nazis Death Camps.

WELL DONE PETER AND EVERYONE AT WW2DB!

Famous WW2 Quote
"You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terrors. Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival."
