P-39 note lack of dorsal fin and no wing armament are only differences between the P-39C and P-39D models. On the P-39D the nose guns were removed and installed in the wings.

Bell P-39C No machine guns installed in the
wings. Eighty aircraft were on order, but
onlt twenty were completed.
Those twenty aircraft were used test planes
and served with the 31st. Pursuit Group at
Selfridge Field Michigan.
