I've seen this photo of FDR reviewing the troops before. It's a very popular one. But I did not know that he was reviewing them in Castelvetrano, Sicily. Both my parents were born and raised in Castelvetrano. I still have relatives there and I've visited them several times. This photo is much more meaningful to me now with this added knowledge.

I have original photos of that day but on the battle field.Both Roosevelt and Eisenhower. I was told that Roosevelt stopped there to check on the troops. They gave him a parade. He was comeing back from conference in Tiran.He met with Stalin & Churchhill.Col. Stiles is driving the jeep.

This photos is very important for me because I'm going to do an exhibition to commemorate the 70th of Husky operation in Sicily (9th july 2013) particulary about Castelvetrano and Sciacca airports.
I ask to You if possible to have a copy of this photo and also contact Mrs. Edna Talmadge for more informations about she has.

Please check the date of President Roosevelt's stay at Castelvetrano Airfield in December 1943. This was on 8 December and not on 14 December. This is an information from the President's diary. On 14 December he was on board of battkleship USS Iowa on the way to the USA (since 9 December).

You are absolutely correct. The date in the caption has been corrected. Thank you for the correction and most especially thank you for steering me to the FDR diary. I had not seen this reference before but it is certainly authoritative and I am sure I will find reason to rely on it again.

This picture was taken at Castelvetrano, Sicily on 8 December 1943. President Roosevelt was returning from the Tehran Conference with Churchill and Stalin. I am the soldier in the background (with black 45 colt side arms) just to the right of George Patton’s face. They had just carried President Roosevelt back from the Dining Hall to his jeep. I heard Eisenhower tell Patton that if he was going along he had better hurry up and get in the jeep. Patton quickly approached the back of the jeep and placing his right hand on the back spare tire vaulted into the back seat next to Eisenhower. They soon left the dining hall returning to the airplane which then flew President Roosevelt to Tunisia. It was 70 years ago that this picture was taken. We saw it for the first time in May of 2013 at FDR’s home in Hyde Park. The FDR library sent me a free 8 x 10 inch original copy.

i was with 314ty troop carrier and was on roving
guard duty the day that pres. roosevelt landed
there. i have 5 photos of him and gen.eisenhower
we waited several hours for his arrival.
our group was stationed there for 6 months

My step father Walter Muller from New Jersey. He was a cook there on Dec.8, 1943 I have his photo's of President Roosevelt, Patton and General Eisenhower. I would like your opinion on what to do with them. Edna Talmadge
