SOUND BARRIER:

Spitfire Mk.XI, EN409 was flown by Squadron Leader Martindale, reached a speed in a 45 degree dive of 606mph(Mach 0.89)or 975km/h, the aircraft was damaged, its propeller and reduction gear broke off, Martindale landed safely.
