Original captioning identifies this bridge as a railway bridge and says this was in New London, Connecticut with Fort Trumbull visible on the left. This would make this a view looking upriver. There are no bridges downriver from Fort Trumbull, the buildings do not look like Fort Trumbull, and the terrain does not look like the banks of the Thames River near Fort Trumbull. The New London railway bridge is 1.25 miles upriver from Fort Trumbull and has been there since 1889. Anyone with better information about where this photo was taken and/or what bridge is shown is invited to comment.
