Note that the ambulances display both the red “Geneva cross” and the white star of the United States Army. While this was not uncommon, it is technically incorrect according to the Geneva rules. Vehicles displaying the red cross were not supposed to have any national markings and most WC54s were shipped from the United States that way. Stars were often added in-theater so the vehicles more closely matched the others in the motor pool.
