WATER LANDING:

Douglas SBD, flown by Commanding Officer of
VB-3 Lt.Cdr. Maxwell F. Leslie ditches next
to Heavy Cruiser USS Astoria. His wingman
Lt.(JG)P.A.Holmberg also ditched due to fuel exhaustion, both crews rescued.
Aircraft made successful attack on the
Japanese Carrier Soryu during the Battle of Midway. Aircraft at right on photograph, is a Crutiss SOC Seagull floatplane on catapult.
