The Martlet IV (F4F-4B) differed from its U.S Navy counterpart in having a Wright GR-1820-G205A-3 Cyclone engine in place of the R-1830-86 Twin Wasp. Two hundred and twenty were delivered to the UK, amd the first F.A.A. Squadron to be equipped was No.892. which took delivery of its first Martlets on July 15, 1942, and subsequently embarked on the Escort Carriers ARCHER and BATTLER.
