February 22 1944: Wasp (CV-18) had just completed shakedown in the Gulf of Paria Trinidad and was heading back to Boston, arriving there on Feb 27. On March 15 she left Boston for the Canal Zone and the Pacific, transiting the canal on March 21 and arriving at San Diego on March 28. She left for Pearl Harbor on March 30, arriving there on April 3 1944. Her first combat action was 2 days of strikes against Marcus with Essx and San Jacinto. She was attqached to TG 58.1 with Hornet and Belleau Wood on June 2 1944 just prior to the invasion o fthe Mariamas (Forager).
