Sara's last combat was February 21 1945 when she was hit by suicide aircraft carrying bombs. She went to Bremerton for repairs and then returned to Pearl Harbor June 1 1945, where after a short availability to repair a 5 inch gun mount damaged in an operational accident May 12, she was used as the training carrier for new air groups heading to TF 38/58.
