Famous WW2 Quote
"Among the men who fought on Iwo Jima, uncommon valor was a common virtue."Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, 16 Mar 1945

The christening of the “Rose of York” took place at RAF Thurleigh in Bedfordshire with the King, Queen, and Princess in attendance, escorted by LtGen Jimmy Doolittle. The B-17’s crew then flew the plane to RAF Molesworth 11 miles away in Cambridgeshire, home of the US 303rd Bomb Group. The Royal party also traveled to Molesworth but by motorcade. This photograph was taken at Molesworth where Princess Elizabeth reviewed 303rd aircrews escorted by the 303rd commanding officer, Col Kermit Stevens.
