That city in the background is not Valletta but the former Capital Mdina. I can confirm this as I am Maltese.

As 'anonymous' says the walled city in the background is Mdina - not Valletta. Consequently the airfield is definitely not Luqa but Ta' Qali (or RAF Ta' Kali).

This picture was taken in Ta' Qali and in the backgroung there is the Mdina Cathedral.

As a many-time visitor to Ta Qali, that is most definitely Mdina in the background!

I think here is R.A.F. ta Qali because the background is M'dina church.& Rabat
