thats a Typhoon. The radiator intake is the giveaway, along with the shape of the wing tips.

The oddly shaped “chin” scoop certainly confuses the matter but this is a Spitfire Mark Vc-Tropical. The main landing gear retracts the wrong way for a Typhoon but is perfectly correct for a Spitfire. The distinctly shaped Spitfire wingtips were removed for carrier transport. The transfer of RAF Spitfires to Malta aboard the USS Wasp is well documented including photo 2 of 2 in this series that shows this plane in better profile.

I think it might be a Hawker Tempest. Nose looks nothing like a Spitfire Mk V

It's a photo of Operation Calendar. USS Wasp transported Spitfire reinforcements to the island of Malta. The Spit has a tropical Volkes filter on the chin of the aircraft to preserve the engine from the dust and sand of the tropical environment. It is also equipped with "C" wings. These could be fitted with 2 20mm cannons or 2 20mm cannons and 4 .303 machine guns.
