TANK OFFICER:

Patton became interested with this talk about tanks, and he wanted to be apart of this new tank corps. Patton drove the Renault tank fired its gun and learned as much as possible even discuss tactics with other French officers.
Patton even toured the Renault tank factory and learned everything he could about this new machine of war. The next war would be a mobile one and not won by holding land.

GO TO WAR WITH WHAT YOU HAVE:

During WWI the French loaned 345 Renault tanks to American forces in France, Patton received as many as he could. He saw the military reality of armored warfare. File photo shows Patton standing in front of a French Renault F.T.17 Light Tank it had a turret that could rotate 360 degrees, armed w/1 x 37mm gun and 1 x 8mm Hotchkiss machine gun.

FIRST HELL ON WHEELS:

The basic layout of the tank, has changed little over the decades armor, caterpillar tracks, with the engine in back crew in front, turret mounted main gun and co-axial machine gun with hull mounted machine guns.
