The Ki-45 (Nick) was used not only by the Japanese Army Air Force, but also Satellite Air Force of Manchukuo. This Air Force was formed in 1938 under Japanese supervision.

Kawasaki Ki-45 (Nick)photographed in the USA after WWII, for testing & evaluation. Aircraft carries its original camouflage. The number 16 on the tail, is for its serial number 3116, signifing 16th Kai-Hei produced
This aircraft isn't the one on display today at the NASM, Washington DC. Aircraft was scrapped after testing.

After WWII about 145 Japanese aircraft were
brought back to the USA for testing. In the late 1940s and early 50s, many of these aircraft were scrapped.
Out of the 1,700 Ki-45s built, only one has survived and is on display at the NASM.
