Both officers are wearing the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords . Galland was also awarded the Diamonds to the Knights Cross the highest degree except for the Diamonds with Golden Oak Leaves awarded only to Hans Ulrich Rudel . The Oak Leaves was sometimes cynically referred to as the broccoli . Galland eventually stopped wearing his decorations in protest to the way the air war was in his mind being miss handled . Galland became General of the fighter arm after Molders was killed in a plane crash . Galland eventually wound up under house arrest as part of the fighter pilots revolt very late in the war even though he had not directly participated in it . He was released and given a chance to form a jet fighter unit , JV 44 . He was wounded in April 1945 and wound up with a total victory score of 103 all against the west . Lutzow was killed during the war April 24 1945 just a few weeks before the end he had 110 victories .

FIELD BRIEFING:
Major General Adolf Galland Right, is briefed by Oberst (Colonel) Gunther Lutzow on his left in Sicily 1943, Lutzow was Geschwaderkommodore of JG 3 Udet.
Tropical shirts are tan in color common to all Luftwaffe ranks. Luftwaffe breast eagle is silver gray on a tan triangle base. Both officers are wearing the gray-blue peaked service cap and have been awarded the Iron Cross.
