Famous WW2 Quote
"All that silly talk about the advance of science and such leaves me cold. Give me peace and a retarded science."Thomas Dodd, late 1945

Dixie Kiefer and Bill Burch had served before. When Kiefer was executive officer of the carrier Yorktown (Yorktown-class) at New Guinea and Coral Sea, Burch was the squadron commander of Scouting Squadron 5 aboard Yorktown. Burch was awarded the Navy Cross once for actions at New Guinea and then again at Coral Sea. He would later get a third Navy Cross for actions aboard Ticonderoga.
