Famous WW2 Quote
"You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terrors. Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival."Winston Churchill

This photo has long been displayed by the US Navy and others reversed left-to-right from what is seen here but that orientation shows the star on the aircraft’s wrong wing. In Aug 1943, the emblem was to be painted on the upper surfaces of an aircraft’s port wing and both the Navy and Army were very faithful to these guidelines. Reversing the Navy’s image to what is seen here would mean this aircraft was launched over the stern while the Sable steamed in reverse, which is exactly what happened (see Comment to Photo 1 in this series). Also, a motion picture of this crash shows the same orientation as what is seen here (http://ww2db.com/video/27 beginning at 5:15). Why the aircraft was being launched over the stern is not clear.
