- During peace negotiations in Kandy, Ceylon between Thailand and the United Kingdom, British negotiator M. E. Dening demanded that all his proposals to be accepted by Thailand without exceptions. Thai Prime Minister Seni Pramoj opposed such demands. The talks ceased without progressing when Dening was called away to deal with matters in the Dutch East Indies. ww2dbase [Kandy | CPC]
- British Lieutenant Colonel E. D. Murray arrived in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to release Allied prisoners of war and to disarm Japanese forces. He was accompanied by a platoon of Gurkha troops and other personnel. - Prince Naruhiko Higashikuni resigned as the Prime Minister of Japan after a dispute between his government and the US occupation about the repeal of the 1925 Public Security Preservation Laws, which the Americans viewed as repressive.
