- 59 SBD dive bombers, 24 TBF torpedo bombers, and 99 fighters attacked Vunakanau Airfield at Rabaul, New Britain. This attack was followed by another attack on Vunakanau Airfield by 24 B-25 bombers escorted by 20 fighters. Finally, a third attack wave with 21 B-24 bombers escorted by 28 fighters which targeted both Vunakanau Airfield and Tobera Airfield.
