Burma
- The Union of Burma was declared, with U Nu as its first Prime Minister. Communist groups such as White Flags, Red Flags, and the Revolutionary Burma Army refused to recognize the new state and threatened it with armed conflict. Unlike most other former colonies, Burma declined to become a member of the Commonwealth. ww2dbase [CPC]
