ww2dbaseThe M2 Howitzers were the standard medium howitzers for the United States ground forces in since its introduction in 1934. In 1941, the M2A1 variant design entered production. Built by the Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois, United States, M2 Howitzers were used both in the European and the Pacific Theaters. They were known for their relative accuracy even at long ranges.

The M2 Howitzers were later redesignated as M101. Production continued through the post-war era, and they were used in subsequent major conflicts such as the Korean War and the Vietnam War, often alongside the more modern M102 Howitzers. Many US-friendly nations used them as well, such as Canada (as the C1 and C3 Howitzers), France, Australia, Republic of China at Taiwan, and others. Many remain in active service today.
