Sturer Emil

CountryGermany
Primary RoleTank Destroyer

Contributor:

ww2dbaseThe Sturer Emil heavy tank destroyers were created by mating modified Henschel-built VK3001 prototype heavy tank chassis with Rheinmetall-built 128-millimeter K L/61 guns. The design was completed in 1941 and two examples were built in 1942, nicknamed "Max" and "Moritz"). Officially designated Selbstfahrlafette auf VK3001(H), they saw action in the Russo-German war. One of them was destroyed in action, while the other was captured at Stalingrad, Russia in Jan 1943 after it had destroyed 22 Soviet vehicles. The captured Sturer Emil tanker destroyer is now on display at the Kubinka Tank Museum near Moscow, Russia.
