U-575 Operational Timeline
1 Dec 1941 | German submarine U-575 (Kapitänleutnant Günther Heydemann) spotted the unescorted and unarmed 7,542-ton steam tanker Astral at 1700 hours. Astral was carrying 78,200 barrels of gasoline and kerosene. U-575 tracked Astral until 2057 hours when Heydemann discovered a painted American flag on the side of the tanker. Heydemann did not realize that fellow submarine captain Wolfgang Lüth of U-43 had also been tracking the same American tanker. |

Famous WW2 Quote
"You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terrors. Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival."Winston Churchill
