ww2dbaseHavelland was laid down as one of the six Dithmarschen-class auxiliary ships aimed at providing fueling, repairing, and medical services for German ocean-going warships. Though launched in 1940, demands of war placed her completion work very low on the priority list, resulting in her not being finished before the end of the war.
