My Father Walter Schukantz was an armorer on the Tarheel Hal which is the aircraft in the photo. I called him and he knows your father. He said his nickname was "Mud Hen" because he was a duck hunter. They went through armorer school together. Let me know if you get this and we may get them in touch with each other.

Hello,anyone recognise this emblem-a winged bug/wearing helmet-goggles and holding a Machine gun under body in right arm,a red bomb below main body,links of 50 cal ammo leading from M.Gun,sweat beads in front of face and what appears to be HVAR rockets in a rear foot, it was on a A-2 Jacket worn by Lt.Filippo M. Caseria w/366thFTR SQ/358th FG

Looking for info on my grandfather Lt. Joseph Richlitsky who flew with the 358th FG, 9th AF and shot down a Me262 flown by Lt. Fritz Kelb I/JG 7 on 30Apr,1945 over Germany with Capt. James H. Hall. Any further info anyone has would be appreciated.

I would be curious to know some details of your fathers being an armorer. School location, MOS, training, etc...

the reason i ask is i run the USAF armament career field and i am writing its past history and it would be a blessing to receive some information outside of websites

Hallo Joe,
you are right, Capt. James H.Hall and 2./Lt.Joseph Richlitsky shoot down one Me262, but by the Frank Olynyk book it was on 29th April 1945 and Lt.Fritz Kelb reported missing on 30th April.
I will welcome any detailed info about mission of your grandfather, I´m looking for Fritz Kelb crashsite.

My father Lt James O Hall flew the above plane Tarheel Hal occasionaly when he was with the 358th FG 366th FS. He passed away recently on 7/15/2012

Reading comments about armorers that worked on Tarheel Hal. My uncle worked on that and others as an armorer. Reuel Thompson. Anyone remember him? He is still alive and we talk about his experiences whenever we get together.

Ask your uncle if he knew my father 2nd Lt James Hall that flew TarHeel occasionally whenever his plane "Teachers Pet" wasn't available. He was with the 358th FG

I am looking for pictures or information about my dad Capt. Charles L. Snider. He was promoted to Capt. on Oct. 11, 1944. He flew with the 493rd Fighter Squadron. His plane had a picture of a woman and the word "Frosty" written on it. My dad passed away at the young age of 49. So I do not have much info. and would appreciate anything someone might have on him. I was very fortunate to find a book entitled "The 493rd Fighter Squadron" in World War II. Edited by Col. Jacob L. Cooper, USAF, Retired. It mentions my dad on several pages and has a couple of pictures, but no pictures of his plane or my dad with his plane. Please if you have any information, I would be greatly appreciative!!!!

My grandfather was in the 358FG and 366 fighter squadron . His name was Fenton guild . Anyone know him or have any information on him. I never got the chance to talk with him about it
