Sir,
Re:25 photo of the invasion of the Philippines-Bataan Death Marth - 3 Mis labels.
Major General Edward P. King commander of the Bataan Defense Force surrendered on April 9th and I Corps Commander Brig. General Albert Jones surrendered on the morning of April 11. The photo caption described as Americans resting on the Death March - May 1942. Is in error. They may have been troops on Corregidor which surrendered on May 6th -- but the Death March was long over by then. The Corregidor men were taken by rail to a different camp. Also, the photo of a line Americans on their backs seems to be in error in describing them as dead Americans - close examination shows they are resting with their feet elevated on top of their socks placed on top their shoes. some have a wet(?) cloth on their forhead and a medic with a red cross armband is standing over them. Finally the label of the photo showing Filipinos carrying improvised litters has been described as being in error. Rather than carrying sick/wounded men on the death march it is a picture of a Filipine burial detail at Camp O'Donnel after the conclusion of the Death March --- The web site of the Battling Bastards of Bataan - a veterans organization has cited the mis-description of the last photo.
