The wooden scaffolding would serve no purpose in shipbuilding; it was constructed as a temporary platform to bring Roosevelt to the shipways by automobile. In the car with the President were Oregon governor, Charles Sprague, Henry Kaiser, and is his son, Edgar F. Kaiser, Vice-President & General Manager of the Oregon Shipbuilding Corp.
