Gen Doolittle was serving as escort to the royal visitors that day. The Duchess of Kent was born Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark and married to the younger brother of Prince Albert of the UK who would become King George VI. Lady Herbert was a Lady in Waiting to the Duchess. Col MacDonald was the commanding officer of the 305th Bomb Group based at Chelveston. They are standing on the upper balcony viewing area of the Chelveston control tower watching the return of that day's mission from Faßberg, Germany.
