ww2dbaseThe AS.10 Oxford twin-engined trainer aircraft were developed from aircraft manufacturer Airspeed's commercial passenger aircraft AS.6 Envoy design in order to fulfill Specification T.23/36. These low-wing cantilever monoplanes were mainly used to train Royal Air Force Bomber Command's crews, but in rare occasions they were also used in anti-submarine, ambulance, and light bomber (in Iraq) roles. They were used by various British Commonwealth forces such as South Africa (as "Convertible Envoy") and Canada. During the design's production life, a total of 8,751 aircraft were built by Airspeed, de Havilland, Percival, and Standard Motors. After WW2, 152 surplus AS.10 Oxford aircraft were converted to 6-seat commercial airliners designated the AS.65 Consul, while a few others remained in the military role in Greece during the civil war.
