ww2dbaseErnst Alexander Zwilling was born into an Austrian German family in Osijek, Austria-Hungary (now in Croatia). His Viennese father was a lieutenant colonel in the military. In 1908, his family moved back to Vienna. In the 1930s, he traveled in German Kamerun as a photographer and explorer. During the war, he photographed the German military in North Africa, including scenes with Erwin Rommel and Fritz Bayerlein. He passed away in Baden bei Wien, Austria in 1990 and was buried at the Hietzinger Cemetery in the Hietzing District of Vienna.

Mr. Zwilling was a friend of my husband when we lived in Mödling , Austria, my husband was JOHN ELLIOTT PATTERSON, I will always remember Mr. Zwilling , taking an elephant hair bracelet off his wrist pn my birthday and offering it to me, saying: My last elephant....i lost the bracelet but i never forget my birthday!!!!
