Passing of Margaret Kelly
Contributor: Alan Chanter
94-year-old Margaret Kelly died peacefully at her family farm in Wales in the United Kingdom last weekend. Margaret was only 18 when she was posted to the Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park during World War Two. She joined the top-secret code-breaking mission and became a Wren - part of the team that operated Colossus, one of the first large-scale computers, and the device that would assist the Park's codebreakers in cracking enemy coded messages and thereby helped to shorten the war. Margaret had 33 grandchildren.
