Wreck of Hornet Found
Mere days after a team of researchers from Vulcan reported the identification of the wreck of battleship Hiei, it announced the identification of the wreck of aircraft carrier USS Hornet. The ship was lost in action east of the Solomon Islands in Oct 1942, and sank to the ocean floor 3 miles beneath the surface. She had been in commission for one year and one week at the time of her sinking, but almost had an illustrious career being a veteran of the Doolittle Raid and the Battle of Midway.
Vulcan is a company founded by the late Paul Allen of Microsoft fame.
