| Caption | Aerial view of the Midway Islands and the Naval Air Station, Jun 1942 (later renamed Henderson Field). Interestingly, the air station is two different runway complexes on two different islands, but it still considered one air station. ww2dbase | ||||||||

You are absolutely correct that there is a Henderson Field is on Guadalcanal. It was named for Maj Lofton R Henderson, killed Jun 4, 1942 in the Battle of Midway. The Naval Air Station at Midway was also named for the same Maj Henderson.
In checking my sources, I confirmed that the date of this image is given as “June 1942.” I could not confirm when this air station was renamed, but since it is very unlikely for the name to be changed within the same month as the death of the honoree, I have changed the caption here to reflect the name before being changed to Henderson Field.
