Famous WW2 Quote
"The raising of that flag on Suribachi means a Marine Corps for the next 500 years."James Forrestal, Secretary of the Navy, 23 Feb 1945

My brother-in-law served in the Marines on Iwo Jima. He told me that battles continued on the island after the raising of the flags on Suribachi, and that there was another flag planted on the end opposite Suribachi when our forces captured the remainder of the area. He has a picture of Marines with the flag. Is there anyone who has further information about this?
