The view is looking aft at the stern of the Iowa. In view are the 8 watertube boilers that provide the steam to the 4 turbines that turn the propellers. The steam drums are the cylindrical shapes with tubes running to them as in the foreground right side of the photo.
Also in view is the foundation for the rear 16 inch gun turret.
